Stabbed By An EMMY Statue
Q. What do you get when you cross a brown chicken with a brown cow?
A. Brown-chicka-brown-cow (you have to say it fast for it to work!)
I won an EMMY. There, I said it. I don’t like to talk about it much, it seems self-serving, unimportant, and honestly, I’m pretty sure I won because the judges were tired and liked the headline of the story more than the video itself. That being said you’re probably asking, “Well why are you bringing up that you won an EMMY if you seem so set on not talking about it?” Here’s why. Because I had an interesting run-in with my EMMY statue the other day that still has me cringing.
Two years ago I shot a story about the Fall Fecal Fest at the Woodland Park Zoo. The backbone of the story starts with Dr. Doo and extends to him taking the fecal matter from the zoo animals and turning into “ZooDoo” that people use in their gardens. He calls it “gold.” When the story was posted on KIROtv.com the headline read, “Shoveling For Doo At Fecal Fest.” This was the story that won the EMMY. Well when you win an EMMY where are you supposed to put it? Nobody ever told me this. Some put it on the mantel, some back in the box, some on their desk at work… For me, I thought there was no better place then to put it on the back of my toilet. I mean come on… It’s pretty and it says “Shoveling for Doo” on it. Seems like a no-brainer.
Well last week I was cleaning the bathroom. I started with the toilet, cleaned the bowl, then took the EMMY statue off the back of the toilet, placed it on the ground next to the shower, and did some dusting. Then I moved onto the shower. I scrubbed at the scum with vengeance; the shower basin, then the side walls, around the drain and so on. It wasn’t until I took a step back to admire how squeaky clean the shower was that I was reminded about where I had placed the EMMY statue during cleaning. It all happened so fast. I stepped back, and felt a sharp pain. The needle-sharp point on the statue pierced my heel. I screamed, blood began to flow, it was gruesome. I quickly grabbed some toilet paper, hopped over to my couch clutched my foot in pain. I was sure I was going to die. And all because of a painful misstep with an EMMY statue. I had been stabbed. Fortunately it didn’t go too deep. But my heel was extremely sore for the next few days.
The learning moment here for Mr. SeattleInsider? Don’t put the extremely sharp EMMY statue on the ground. Or even better, don’t win the damn EMMY in the first place!
The new joke…What do you call a sheep with no legs?

Now that we are in February, we can officially say that this past month was the warmest January on record for Seattle. The record book in Seattle goes back to 1891, nearly 120 years! The average temperature for January 2010 was 47.0 degrees. This blew past the old record of 46.6 degrees set back in 2006.
Seattle was not the only spot around Western Washington to see an all time record. Bellingham tied the record for the warmest January. The average temperatures was 45.3 degrees, tying the old record set back in 1986. Record keeping in Bellingham began in 1949. For other cities like Olympia, Forks, and Hoquiam, this past January was the second warmest on record.
Right now we are in the middle of El Nino, the climate pattern that is known for bringing us warmer than average weather here in the Pacific Northwest. So far this winter, El Nino is delivering that warm weather. What is interesting when looking at the top 5 warmest Januaries on record, 4 out of those 5 occured during an El Nino winter.
We look to keep this mild weather going into the first week of February. High temperatures will be holding around 50 degrees for the next 5 days, slightly above the average high of 47 degrees this time of year.

Family vacation favor Florida is easy to understand, but some people move on to Florida for the entire winter. Places in Florida, including Orlando And Boca Raton, are greatly well-known that they appeal to those wanting to run off the shivering and winterlike weather in states. Because as many people relocate to florida for a good part of the year, there is an actual term, snowbirds, for these people. Snowbirds want to run away from the snowfall and be somewhere warm. And why not? In addition to warm weather, Florida has largely to advocate it as both a tourist attraction and a place to live in the winter. One of the best appealing details? Tax benefits...Florida has no personal income tax. This means that people can still keep their homes in another state, as long as a home or condo in Florida is a first home. In many cases, they need to schedule the most of the year, at least 9 months, living in Florida. Of course, a lot of that period covers the winter months. If Florida is going to be a first home, there isn't much use in spending part of the year in a cold climate. To make the most of Florida, people move there for the winter and feel happy when they think of all that they are escaping, from slippery roads to icy or snow covered roofs and sidewalks. By Moving to Florida For the winter and most of the year, people can save a considerable on taxes. Florida's tax benefits are so great that so far a handful of states have lower taxes. If the warm weather in Tampa and other parts of Florida weren't reason suitable to Move There, the tax savings can be the deciding fact. Florida, including Palm Beach, has a wide diversity of free attractions. This makes Florida a relatively low cost place to live, depending on location. When real estate prices are at a low, many nice places are rented or sold for bargain prices, making it easy to find gorgeous living spaces for low rates. It costs nothing to walk along the waterfront, view out over a scenic ocean or bicycle down sidewalks or bike paths. For those who want easy living, Florida is a real address for winter.

Hi, thanks for letting me be a part of _ ispot.kirotv.com. I’m looking forward to being an active community member here.
Okay, what can I tell you about what I do? My day job is in a cube farm and, as you can imaging, can be very boring. It takes all my will power to stop from going online and watch YouTube all day. After hours, I’ve got a little sideline helping insurance agents and brokers boost their sales—by showing them how they can generate more insurance leads. This sideline insurance marketing job is definitely a lot more satisfying. I surf the web without feeling guilty and use my online marketing smarts. Plus, I’m assisting consumers as they shop for the right insurance plans on the web… by connecting them with health insurance producers (also life insurance agents).
If I can pull myself away from the computer, I do enjoy playing basketball with friends. I tried golfing
recently… and I’m not sure it’s for me.

You have probably noticed that this month has been very warm across Western Washington. I was talking to a friend yesterday who lives in Issaquah who told me that she is starting to see signs of blooming from the cherry blossoms near her home. I can only imagine that the trees and plants around our area are a bit confused. We went from a bitter cold snap this past December, to persistent 50s and even a few days in the 60s this January. What a difference a year makes.... or a month for that matter!
So here is the temperature breakdown. We are looking at the average temperature for the month of January. This is calculated by averaging out the high and low temperatures for the month. So far this January at Sea-Tac Airport, the average high temperature has been 51.6 degrees and the average low temperature has been 42.8 degrees. This would then give us a monthly average through January 25th of 47.2 degrees. The warmest January on record at Sea-Tac turned out to be 2006 when we saw an average temperature of 46.6 degrees. With under a week to go... we are 0.6 degrees above the all time record that goes back to 1945 at the airport.
Other spots around Western Washington could be seeing the warmest January on record as well. Here is a breakdown of a few more cities that are within reach of the monthly record.
Olympia: 44.0 degrees (2010) Record: 44.0 degrees (1953)
Bellingham: 45.9 degrees (2010) Record: 45.3 (1986)
Forks: 46.8 (2010) Record: 46.5 (2003)
Hoquiam: 47.0 (2010) Record: 47.2 (2003)
With less than a week to go and temperatures forecast to stay above average, we may end up seeing January 2010 going down as the warmest on record for some cities across Western Wasington. If you like this warmer weather, you can thank El Nino. This climate pattern usually brings us warmer than normal winter weather, and so far it is delivering. Stay tuned... we'll let you know if we break any of these records here on KIRO 7. Enjoy some of the sun peeking out today!

I captured the satellite image to the right earlier this morning. Looking at the plume of moisture stretching well to our south into the subtropics, you can tell we are in for a very wet day. The cold front associated with this storm is still sitting offshore and is moving veeerrrry slowly. This means a constant stream of moisture coming in, bringing us persistent rainfall through your Friday.
Flood Watches are in effect for most of Western Washington through Saturday. A watch in the weather department means, "watch out" we could see some local rivers reach flood stage. With the southwest direction of the moisture flow, the heaviest rains are not falling into the Green River basin. No flooding is expected on the Green River over the next week.
The only river under a Flood Warning right now is the Skokomish River near Potlatch with minor flooding occuring through the day. Since midnight, we have already seen around 0.50" of rain over Bremerton. This is the highest amount across the lowlands so far. Storm totals around the sound look to range anywhere between 0.50" to 1.00" through tomorrow morning. Over the Kitsap Peninsula where some of the heaviest lowland rain is falling, around 1.50" is possible. The Olympic Mountains are expected to receive totals between 6 and 9 inches before this storm is said and done.
Rain will give us a break this evening and for your Saturday morning. Look for some showers Saturday afternoon with steadier rain moving in on Sunday. Stay dry and have a great weekend!

We are in the midst of a soggy stretch of weather here in Western Washington. A few records fell yesterday, both in the temperature and rainfall departments. We'll start with the rain first. Near the coast, Forks recorded 4.59 inches of rain Monday, shattering the old record of 2.46 inches. No rainfall record at Sea-Tac, but over an inch fell with 1.07" recorded when it was all said and done yesterday.
Despite the rain, temperatures are on the warm side for this time of year. The average high temperature for early January is around 45 degrees. We are running 5 to 10 degrees above that with most spots topping out in the 50s across Western Washington. Bellingham was the warm spot yesterday hitting 61 degrees. That broke the old record of 60 set back in 1987. Hoquiam hit 58 degrees and Forks hit 55 on Monday. Both of those temperatures set new record highs.
So far 2010 has been off to a wet start. We have seen 3.70 inches of rain at Sea-Tac since January 1st. Typically we would have around 1.87 inches of rain in the bucket by this time of January.
The warm rain continues today and tomorrow. Drier weather is expected Thursday and Friday with fewer showers across Western Washington.

Vitamin B is needed for hair to remain healthy. For hair loss, biotin is an essential natural nutrient, found in Provillus that also aids in the regrowth of hair. Biotin is the vitamin B that makes keratin, which can stop your hair from turning gray and falling out. It also helps to metabolize fats and carbohydrates. Niacin is another vitamin B that helps improve blood circulation to the scalp.
Naked People & A Camera
Q. What do you get when you cross a vampire with a snowman?
A. Frostbite
It seems that everyone finds a way to get into at least a little trouble while in college. It’s your early 20’s, it’s some of your first years away from your parents, and there’s temptation and excitement around each corner.
Well trouble was not what I was looking for when I returned to my off-campus house during the Spring of 2003. I had spent my Friday evening up in the university TV station teaching myself how to edit and now was returning home for some much needed rest. When I walked up the driveway I heard noise. It was another house party at the “Frisball house” (Name explanation? Half of the residents were Frisbee players, half basketball players). When I opened the door I was faced with a room full of college kids, beers in hand, and not a worry in the sky. As I crossed through the main room someone had the brilliant idea of streaking across campus. “Come on, if a bunch of us do it, it’ll be hilarious!” The idea quickly gained momentum and before I knew it, I was being wrapped into the plan. “Hey Fox, do you have your video camera with you?” “Yes,” I responded reluctantly. “YOU CAN VIDEO TAPE IT THEN!!!! It’ll be awesome!” And this is where the misfortune began to unravel.
I ran upstairs to get the video camera from my room. (It should be noted that this wasn’t my own personal camera, but a camera owned by the university that was loaned to me to use while working at the TV station.) A handful of people dropped their drawers, whipped off their shirts, and they were off! The crew blazed a trail across campus while I followed behind capturing the action on camera. Everyone was laughing, people were screaming, onlookers were shocked.
We circled through campus and made a final dash back to the house, only to be cornered by bright lights and a voice telling us to “Stop immediately!” My heart began to race. Yes it was only the campus police, but still, what could I possibly do to get out of this one? After all, I was videotaping streaking! Some of the streaking crew frantically dressed themselves while the campus police handed out orders and asked for names. I kept rolling on the action until one of the officers started to approach me yelling, “Turn the camera off!” Unbeknownst to me, this minor distraction proved to be enough for some of the streakers to escape, making a beeline into a deep sea of darkness. Meanwhile the others continued to put on their clothes and we all were eventually summoned to the campus security office.
My immediate response was, “Why do I have to go, I didn’t streak?” They identified me as an accomplice, confiscated the camera and told me to follow them. I would learn that the sticky situation was that I was using school equipment to capture all of this. So not only was I involved, but I was involved while using equipment that wasn’t even mine. As we headed in, my mind began to rapidly process how on earth all this was going to play out. In an instant I realized that they could confiscate the camera, but what about the tape? That was mine. It happened to be raining on that particular evening so I asked if I could at least have the camera back while we were walking so I could keep it dry and undamaged. They agreed to hand it over. Yes! This was my opening. I dropped a few paces behind the group and casually opened the camera up and removed the tape to put it in my pocket. Yes they could have the camera, but the tape was mine.
As we got back to the headquarters they again asked for the camera. They wanted to review the tape to implicate the others who had escaped. They took down my information and released me. I walked home with a giant smirk on my face. If only I could be a fly on the wall when they tried to play the camera only to find that there was no tape to review.
I crawled into bed finally ready to soak up some sleepy time. Only minutes had passed when my roommate yelled up the stairs, “Fox, the cops are here! They want to talk to you!” My eyes snapped open and my heart again began to race. Uh-oh, I thought. Had my plan backfired? And why were the cops now involved? Had I broken the law? I hustled downstairs, my heart pumping, my head hurting. “Are you Michael Fox?” “Yes, sir, I am Michael Fox.” “I was sent over here to retrieve the tape from this evening’s incident.” I paused, thinking about how I could dodge this one. Did I have to hand over the tape? I didn’t know. So I asked. “Do I have to give you the tape?” He smiled. “No, not necessarily. They just sent me over with the hope that I could coax it outta you.” That being said, I declined to hand over the tape, he retreated back up the stairs, and all was left untouched for the rest of the evening.
Eventually the university would take the incident to the next level. We were all written up for our involvement in the campus streaking, and my punishment was to write a paper about “the misuse of school property.” I worked for student media and they expected more from me as a young journalist. I was required to interview three different Communication professors about the ramifications of my actions, and how being involved with student media didn’t coincide with this kind of behavior. Yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah. I thought. I completed the paper, submitted it to the student conduct board and eventually was able to wash my hands of it all.
Half-a-dozen years have passed since that incident in college. I have reflected on it more than once, laughed about it with friends, but also taken seriously, the role that I played that evening. Yes it was a harmless streaking incident. Naked bodies, loud voices, no big deal. However the more serious learning moment was that I represented the student TV station as a journalist and a storyteller. My involvement with this, while using school equipment, compromised my credibility as a young journalist working for the school TV station. Fortunately for me it wasn’t a more serious situation. But this is something that I continue to use as a tool when analyzing what gets photographed in today’s world. When is enough, enough? There are far more serious incidents than shooting streakers that photographers make decisions about on a daily basis. So the question I pose to the reader…When is it too much? When is it about more than just capturing the action on camera? When is it time to take a step back and turn the camera off?
The new joke…..What do you get when you cross a brown chicken with a brown cow?

When ever you typed How to write a dissertation in any search engine it shows two obvious things.
1. You have to write a big document of over 20000 words
2. You don’t know exactly what or how you gonna do it
So, if you have come to this article so far, in hope of getting the answer of the question mentioned above; you won’t be disappointed, as you will at least find some useful advice that will make you aware of the path you have to follow in order to complete your dissertation project.
This basic but important part of your dissertation writing is choosing a topic for your dissertation writing project. Choosing topic is not an easy task at all. Finding something unique is the irritating point itself. The first question comes in our mind is: What in the earth is unique when we have studied so much about this thing?
Here is the solution: First of all chose the subject which interests you most. Then analyze this subject and see in which area it is more controversial or debatable. Pick some points from that area and start evaluating it, from both acceptable and non-acceptable side.
You really don’t have to invent something extra ordinary unique for your dissertation. Just pick some point, yes a single point and start evolving it into a separate topic.
After you have chosen your topic, you have to write a dissertation proposal. The purpose of this writing is to convince your dissertation committee that the topic that you have chosen is worth to write more than 20000 words on it.
When finally your dissertation proposal gets approved, your main thesis writing work begins. First thing to ask your dissertation adviser is the format of dissertation. After you get the format of dissertation, break your dissertation into following traditional sections of theses.
1. Title
2. Acknowledgments
3. Abstract (The length of the Abstract should be no more than 300-500 words, but not included in the formal word count.)
4. Contents
5. Chapter 1: Introduction
The length of the Introduction should be about 10% of the whole dissertation.
6. Chapter 2: Literature search
7. Chapter 3: Methodology
The Research Methodology chapters in length should be about 20% of whole dissertation.
8. Chapter 5: Analysis or discussion (The length of this section should be about 30% of the whole dissertation.)
9. Chapter 4: Results
10.Chapter 6: Conclusions (This chapter in lengths should be about 15% of the whole dissertation)
11. References Or Bibliography
12. Appendix
The main purpose of these academic writing is to prepare students to be original. These jobs required students to present something new and original and take first step to contribute something new in pre existing knowledge. But this doesn’t mean you start copying other people’s ideas and research and make some changes in it and claim it as your study. You may get some coursework help from others but If you ever copy from some past documents, then you have to mention the original source.
Concentrate on the each section individually except those which are connected together like Reference and bibliography. With this approach you are able to complete your dissertation project successfully.
“Where Did My Office Go?”
Q. “What did Santa’s little helper feel depressed?
A. “He had low ELF esteem.”
Where did my office go? I swear, each day I come into work at KIRO 7 my office feels a little more hidden than it did the day before. It’s already located in the far back corner of the station, but now someone must employ a tour guide just to find the room! An old rug, a dozen or so unwanted chairs, a lift, old televisions, file cabinets, the list goes on and on and on…. I will admit however, while the climbing about, balancing upon, and navigating through the KIRO 7 back-up-storage-area gets a little old, it’s kinda cool to have what seems to be a hidden office. Now all I need to do is turn off the lights, turn on some scary music, dress myself as something terrifying, and have some fun with anyone who chooses to enter……….

Adequate nutrition for your body before and after strenuous work-outs is important in order for you to reap the maximum benefits from your efforts. An increasingly popular way of achieving this is through the use of natural Whey Protein supplements.
Nowadays many athletes, especially Body Builders, are utilizing natural Whey Protein supplements to replenish protein levels that are burned off through hard-core exercise routines. Amino Acids prevent deterioration in muscle tissue as well as provide endurance and assist in building mass. Proteins help supply these amino acids.
- So what exactly is Whey Protein?
Whey Protein is derived from cow's milk and is also a by-product of making cheese, which in the past was typically thrown out as a waste product. We now know that Whey Protein is rich in amino acids essential for building muscle and overall good health.
Whey Protein is also naturally found in breast milk as well as some types of baby formula. Although protein is also found in other foods such as meats and vegetables, Whey Protein is known to have the highest digestible levels of protein that the body can use.
Whey Protein offers several other health benefits like a healthier immune system, stronger bones, weight loss, and just plain overall better well being. Whey Protein is also sometimes used to help speed the healing of wounds or burns.
- Are there risks or side affects?
Since Whey Protein is derived from food it doesn't have any of the risks associated with man-made supplements. However, you can even have too much of a good thing if you're not careful. Extreme high use can be more than your liver can handle. Moderation is always best.
For those who are lactose intolerant, there is Whey Protein Isolate which has less than 1% lactose.

Hello All Dissertation Students,
I am in the process of finding out a topic for a anthropology dissertation , more specifically in forensic anthropology. Although I am quite sure what I want to do, I am interested in having views of others in the fields, and where they think research is lacking. With a bit of luck, my ideas will be amongst the areas suggested!
I am particularly interested in your thoughts on the fields of forensic anthropology, bioarchaeology, and human osteology to write my social anthropology dissertation. Not so much paleoanthropology (unless it is about AMHs, and then perhaps it might be of use).
As for the research on sexing/ageing...I do think it is imperative to keep trying out the methods and finding methods for isolated bones. This can help keep the methods fresh and constantly make improvements to them. Also, the isolated bone methods can be of use in trying to recognize unidentified remains or help un-mix commingled remains.
That being said, I still don't really want to do that for a dissertation topic. Like you said, not very original.
That is why I am trying to see if others have noticed areas missing needed information. I have been doing literature reviews (especially Journal of Forensic Sciences and American Journal of Physical Anthro. to find topics I feel need more information, but sometimes others see things that a person can miss on their own.
Do you have any specific areas that you've noticed?
The response to my question I received is as follows:
Response:
Often times dissertation are based on improvements to or gaps in research already conducted. While it may get your degree, this is safe...and boring. Unfortunately, a lot of the research that can be conducted in forensic anthropology is this sort of improvement-based research. I've read numerous papers, theses, etc. on new (and obscure) ways to age, sex, etc. a skeleton. This stuff can already be done. I don’t care if the sphenoid can be used in age determination (which I don't think it can, but you get the point).
I suggest that you sit down, pretend that you are a child and ponder the mysteries of the field. Find something that's hardly been touched...or think of new ways to interpret things. My adviser once told me that what he likes most about new students is that they haven't been corrupted by the field. If you can find a topic that you're really passionate about it will make the research so much easier.
I'd like more research on various indigenous agricultural technologies, including Egyptian use of the Nile River delta and examples of relatively high standards of living which complemented the natural world.
Also, I would like more emphasis in proper representation of the physical features of ancient civilizations. For example, no more white Egyptians or white Jesus.
Finally, I am interested in variable diets of indigenous people and the effects of such diets on their physical bodies... for example, did some people have better eyesight than others? or did some people have fewer diseases than others?... all of which relating to diet, of course. I hope this will help in writing anthropology dissertations.
