July 24, 2009 One lightning strike over north Whidbey Island Thursday night came from the same low pressure system that brought thousands of lightning strikes, a couple of severe thunderstorms and flash flood warnings for Chelan and Douglas counties east of the Cascades. It's impressive that a weak disturbance like that can fire up so much energy on BOTH sides of the Cascades! Light rain showers developed over the San Juan Islands and north of Everett as late as 10p.m. as the counterclockwise rotation of air around the low puth western Washington on the west side of the storm.
The low will drift closer to northern Idaho and thunderstorms today through the weekend will be primarily limited to the northern Cascades eastward. A strong ridge of high pressure will exacerbate a heat wave that is building up for Sunday through at least Thursday.
The average number of days in a year that Sea-Tac hits 90 or above is 3. We are looking at a possible 5 day stretch of temperatures at 90 or above.
Prepare for the heat now as local stores may be going through ice, popsicles and fans very quickly!

Here is Sassy, our Shiba Inu at The Everett Marina where we walk occasionally. She loves to jump on things and just settled on this bench where I took her photo with my cell phone camera

This is a good shot of the classroom I went to last year for CADD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design).
The water used to put out the fire caused the close-by wetland/pond to overflow onto Airport Road.
